Come, Stay and Learn for a Truly Immersive English Language Experience

English & Walking Course

english and walkingOne of the courses we have done is an English and Walking Immersion class.  We are located right in the beautiful heart of the Yorkshire countryside, which gives a great location to learn English while taking in the astonishing countryside views.  Walking, enjoying the scenery and good camaraderie is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the language and surroundings and make sure that you really improve your English skills.

Walking across the Moors and Dales has been a popular hobby for hundreds of years. Many English writers such as the Bronte sisters, Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and Laurie Lee took much of their inspiration from their moorland and lakeside walks.  This is why we feel that it is a wonderful chance to follow in their footsteps, admire the vast sweep of hills and dales, breathe in the fresh air, and be inspired.

If you enjoy nature and the countryside, there is no better way to appreciate it than exploring the great outdoors for an afternoon. We would arrange for you to be accompanied by your teachers and/or other local people who know and love the area and can share the walk with you and point out some of the landmarks. You would be continuing the English language immersion in an activity which requires two legs, stout shoes, a willingness to engage in conversation, and a love of being outside.

The chosen walks are not too strenuous, we want you to enjoy the afternoon and have time to look at and admire the scenery, take photographs, have tea in a village or a drink in a country pub. We have a selection of routes in both the Dales and the Moors and will choose the best ones for you. You will need some suitable clothing for walking, especially footwear, but the walks will be suitable for all.

At times, we offer particular dates to coincide with any special events that might be happening in the area, such as the daffodil walk in March or autumn colour in October. You can come and enjoy English and walking at any time (subject to availability). The group is a maximum of 4 participants and you can choose to come alone or with a friend, colleague or family member (if you choose a family course then we can include walks in your activities).

Our lessons will normally be in the mornings, but we may change things around due to weather or other circumstances. We will have an entire day of walking with picnic or pub lunch at the weekend.

I love the Yorkshire Dales and Moors, they are spectacular and I can’t wait to share them with you!

Example Walks

Our organised walks head off to the Yorkshire Dales or the North York Moors. We will do this in the middle of the week and on the Saturday at the end of the course.

You will need to have a pair of walking boots, thick socks, and waterproof clothing – just in case of rain (not unusual in the UK!).dales walking
